Hair Trend to try – The Top Knot

Remember when everyone was wearing foam ballet buns in their hair giving them a perfect, pretty, girly coif? Well slick ballet buns are yesterday’s news and now the top knot reigns supreme. Making their way from the catwalk and being copied by celebs, top knots are versatile, edgy and our favourite look of the moment. Hair trends come and go, but we hope this one never leaves as it’s perfect for your inner-slacker and has become a staple hair-do that we can’t live without.

We love the different versions of the top knot seen at Jenni Kayne, Phillip Lim, Louis Vuitton and Mary Katrantzou’s  catwalk shows. Jenni sent models down the runway with her version of the trend, an edgy, almost rocky look that set off the feminine floaty designs from her SS/AW12 collection. It’s easy to achieve so get backcombing your ponytail and pin the length in place in a messy bun shape. The texture in the bun is the perfect contrast to the smooth pulled back hair. But if you like a more polished look seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, split your hair in a deep side parting and pull your hair into a ponytail. Then dig out your doughnut and pin the hair in place over it. Voila! Two super easy but ultra glamorous looks we love.

Style icons like Sienna Miller, Kate Bosworth and Gwen Stefani all love a top knot and are often spotted on the stylish streets of London to New York rocking the look. It’s simple and stylish and so easy to do, it’s the quick fix solution for any hairstyle dramas. But don’t let the relaxed  nature of this look fool you. It’s quickly become the go-to red carpet hair-do for fashion lovers  Elizabeth Olswen, Nicole Richie and Chloe Sevigny who have all worn the top knot to major events recently.

The style works looks equally as well dressed down for laid-back cool and celebs like  Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian and Whitney Port have stepped out with the up-do. With so many variations of the top knot, it’s easy to see why it’s become a favourite amongst designers and fashionistas alike. And best of all, it’s not dependent on length or clenliness of hair so everyone can achieve a polished and fuss free look in just a few minutes. In fact this hair-style is your answer for any bad hair day.
