So what’s hot for 2010 in the beauty world? Bethanie Lunn investigates…
It’s all in the eyes
Emphasising your eyes is so now. Lashes are extended, brows are painted on and even your iris gets a makeover. There has been an abundance of brow and lash bars opening across the globe and with that, glued on brow stencils and brow art is going to be huge.
The bling continues to your eyes with crystal encrusted false eyelashes and contact lenses fused with tiny crystals in a circle around the edges of the lenses to add extra sparkle. Though the effect is quite stunning I personally believe glittering stones belong on your fingers and not in your eyes.
Eyelash extensions continue to be a hit with new colours introduced, worn to highlight your natural eye colour. I highly recommend going to a technician who specialises in lash extensions as opposed to a specialist brow bar who also happens to offer this treatment since the lashes will be far more realistic in texture and appearance.
The look should not be overly made-up, remember lash extensions last for up to six weeks, so opt for a more natural look – one that looks like your own lashes only longer and fuller. The extensions should be shorter in the inner corner of your eye and gradually growing in length toward the outer corner for the most convincing finish.
Space-age sheen
Complexions are radiant and luminous with the use of highlighter across the cheekbone, under the brows and on the nose. Ensure you pick the correct highlighter for your skin tone or your complexion could look shiny as opposed to glowing. Choose a highlighter with pink undertones if you are fairer of skin or one with gold undertones for darker skins.
Facials and moisturisers containing enzymes add extra luminosity, effectively sloughing away dead skin cells giving the effect of a peel, minus the unsightly and long winded peeling effects, for younger-looking, smoother skin.
Nail art
The reverse French manicure as seen on Christian Dior, with a pink tip and white nail will be a hit plus the most surprising nail colour – Jade green, inspired by catwalk looks from Vivienne Westwood, Red Label and Chanel.
Nail art gets cool with shiny vinyl coverings moulded to the nail with no drying required, offering long-lasting colour in double quick time. You can choose from liquid gold, silver, nautical stripes, cheetah print and many more. Results last up to six weeks. No more chips, no more fuss.
Botox Hypnosis
Finally, smooth skin can be achieved without injections! Hypnotherapists will be directing a subjects’ attention to relax specific muscles in the face, giving results very similar to Botox.
Patients will be taught self hypnosis so that they can use it to top up the initial therapy. A patient can then hypnotise themselves every few weeks in order to maintain the muscle relaxing, facial smoothing effects. Often over time the same long term effects as a Botox procedure can be observed – the muscles in the face become more and more accustomed to relaxing, leading to permanent skin smoothness.
